LINDFIELD NURSERY SCHOOL Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) - LOCAL OFFER At Lindfield Nursery School we value the achievements and abilities of every individual child, and are committed to providing for each child the best possible environment for learning and development. How does Lindfield Nursery know if children need extra help and what should I do if I think my child may have Special Educational Needs? Through continual observational assessment of all the children in our care we are able to link the development matters, ages, and stages of development within the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS). This helps us identify the individual needs of the children. These observations will be discussed with the Nursery Supervisor, the Nursery Staff, Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator (SENCO), Lisa Gault and the Nursery Manager, Terisa Tuffin. Lindfield Nursery operate a Key Person System. Each child is allocated a Key Person and their role is to develop trusting, sensitive relationships with parents and the children to enable respectful sharing of information. If you have any concerns about your child’s development you can ask for time to discuss this in private with yo ur child’s Key Person . Should a possible individual need be identified the Key Person will discuss this with the parent in private to support your child’s learning and development. Lisa Gault, (SENCO) can offer support and advise to the Key Person and other Nursery Practitioners. She will also liaise with other agencies and professionals as appropriate. Reports from health care professionals such as health visitors and speech and language therapists identify children’s individual needs. The Nursery welcomes parents and professionals to share these reports with them in order to plan appropriately to meet individual needs. How will Lindfield Nursery Staff support my child? They will support by observations, listening, assessments and evaluations which all contribute to Individual Learning Provision Plans (ILPP). We listen to you as well as your child. Our SENCO will explain how your child’s need s can be met by planning support using an ILPP. They will also explain who may become involved in your child’s development and their role. The Key Person will work with the SENCO to oversee the ILPP targets for your child. The Key Person will be in session with your child, if not the SENCO will be present. They will identify individual needs and plan next steps, accessing additional support from others where necessary. The Key P erson’s role will foster relationships with , and understand of the individual children. The SENCO will maintain an overview of experiences and progress. They will also work with other practitioners to ensure provision is relevant and appropriate, and seek support when needed.
