He was born near the Himalayas to a wealthy ruler. When Siddhartha was born, he was kept inside walls and protected from the world. When he was an adult, he left the palace and joined a group of men who wanted a simpler way of living. He eventually became enlightened and taught hundreds of others about what he had learned. According to traditional stories, Chandragupta Maurya was the son of a king. The king died before Chandragupta was born so he was raised as a hunter. He became a soldier and soon lead thousands of men in battle. Around 320 B.C., Chandragupta Maurya took power in India. He started the Mauryan Empire, which soon extended to Persia. He soon became tired of life as a ruler, and became a monk. VENN DIAGRAM Statue of Buddha Ashoka was the son of Chandragupta, and took power in about 270 B.C. By then, the government was very organized. India had a large group of civil service workers and a large army. Ashoka used decorated columns to mark territory and spread news. His nonviolent campaigns were to help achieve political progress. Mohandas was born October 2, 1869 in Porbander, India. His mother was very religious, and his father was the Dewan, or chief minister, of Porbander. gandhi Faced many problems in life, but found ways to go around most of them.
