The final way in which boundaries interact is called transform. These plates move horizontally passed each other. All of these interactions can and have caused significant damage ether by volcanic eruptions, earthquakes and tsunamis. Evidence supporting the Continental Drift Theory Alfred Wegner was the first to propose the theory of continental drift. He noted that all of the continents all fitted together like a giant jigsaw puzzle, this landmass was called Pangaea. In the 1960 ’ s an established theory was that heavier tectonic plate sinks below another a lighter one. This is believed to be the driving force behind continental drift. This process is called subduct ion. Pangaea Pangaea broke up into two smaller continents, called Laurasia and Gondwanaland. By the end of the Cretaceous era, the continents were separating into many land masses that look like our continents of today. ( John Fardon ,1995 ,illustrated encyclopaedia of the earth) Fossils Found Wegener also presented examples where fossils of exactly the same species were distributed where you would expect them to be if there had been Continental Drift (James F.Luhr, 2003, Dictionary of the world), e.g. the same types of fossilised animals and plants are found in South America and Africa.
