The Freescale Cup is a glob- al competition where a team of students build, program, and race their model car around a specialized track. The fastest car with the shortest time to complete the track without derailing out of the track will be the winner. The creation of this autonomous car requires: Embedded software programming and basic circuit creation using Freescale products, which are in- cluded in the entry kit. Set up of motor control hardware and software to propel and steer their car intelligently. Students must also interface their car to a camera that acts as a sen- sor to navigate the car through the race course by following the preset up guide line. The Freescale Cup con- sists of 2 round competitions; the preliminary round and final round in which, the students are allowed to make two attempts. Each team has to complete circling the desig- nated track in the preliminary round in order to advance to the final stage. In the final round, the win- ner is selected based on speed, car movement and intelligence. Centered line track used last year has been re- placed with edge line track for this year competition. This brought a larger challenge for each team as it requires new structure design and program- ming where design and code from last year are not suitable for direct reimple- mentation.
