Gale has written many, many songs! Here are a few of her favorite compositions and how they came to be: Be Still (“...after walking in the park - God sang this song to me” —Gale) Lord How Long (at a Camp Meeting when the preliminaries were rather lengthy, Gale sighed, "Lord, how long?”) Her sing- ing group, Murphy & Company of Memphis, later won a Vocal Competition with this song. Dwell In the House (at a funeral, Psalm 27 was the de- ceased’s favorite scripture. She missed the burial because she remained in the church parking lot to write out this song) Why Do We Sing (Gale heard First Call sing their hit song The Reason We Sing , - then she wrote Why Do We Sing and per- formed it once in Texas where a young Kirk Franklin sat in the audience. Soon after hearing her song, Franklin composed The Reason Why I Sing .) If God Said It (This fun song was God-inspired to help Gale teach a small church choir who had a difficult time finding har- mony notes.) Gale and William have many spiritual daughters and sons throughout the United States who call them Papa Murph and Ma- ma Murphy. Their favorite cruise together has been to Alaska—twice. Their children are … Melanie Murphy, their oldest daughter (lives in Nashville, Tennessee) has one son, Cameron Tomlin, who is a talent- ed high school athlete. Jennifer Murphy-Smith lives in Connecticut with her hus- band Jason and their eight year old son, Justin. Will Murphy is married to Kristin Welch-Murphy and they reside in Ooltewah, Tennessee with soon to be three year old Cullen and one year old Lola.
