AFTER FIFTEEN YEARS as co-found- er, chairman and the last ten years as general secretary, Martin Kössler resigned as captain of the SOG ship at the member assembly in March. ”It’s like seeing a child grow up and move out to stand on its own feet, a fantastic, but very sentimental feeling,” said Martin Kössler. The SOG would like to thank Martin Kössler and also Jonas Hel- lentin, who has been vice general secretary for the past ve years, for all the burning passion in develop- ing Scandinavian outdoor brands’ export business. The recruitment for a new general secretary is underway and the new captain of the SOG ship is planned to be in place by early fall. PRESS CONFERENCE The Scandinavian Outdoor Group’s press conference is the most visited at OutDoor. Ten member companies will share their news. Upcoming academies SINCE THEIR START IN 2003 , over one thousand sta members from retailers around Europe have taken part in the Scandinavian Outdoor Academy. WHEN I LOOK UP FROM my computer screen I see the mountain bike and skis I keep stored in the oce corner. They’re objects, but inside they carry a quality of inspiration. If I ever need a reminder of why I’m in this business, I don’t need to look far. I could also start ipping through this issue of Scandi - navian Outdoor News. It is really hard to decide which of these trail running jewels to put on top of the destination wish list! But right now, the next top destination is Friedrichshafen. The OutDoor show with all the meetings and new learning is a highlight in the yearly calendar. The real asset of our industry is the passion of the people. With the speed of technological development and how it’s creating new habits, this is a time of disruptive changes. It’s hard enough to understand the present situ- ation, and making reliable predictions about the future is virtually impossible. But regardless of how distribution platforms develop, our future success will ultimately depend on how well we can spread the bug of outdoor activities to more people. Our business is about meaningful activity. And that can take many shapes, from adrenaline kicks to slow social hiking, from outdoor cook- ing to wilderness adventures.
