The goal of this group is to develop advanced vocal techniques and musicality to perform challenging Women’s Chorus literature. Students in Women’s Chorus will have one weekly rotating group voice lesson to further their ability. A Cappella Choir is the chorus for the upper grades in which all gentlemen grades 10-12 and ladies in grades 11 & 12 are enrolled. This group will explore highly developed techniques and will perform more advanced literature. A Cappella Choir may participate in trips, workshops and NYSSMA Major Ensemble performances. Acceptance as a member of the choral program is based on successful completion of the previous year’s chorus requirements and teacher recommendation. A new student in the district, or a new student to the choral program at the high school must audition for, and be recommended by the chorus teacher(s). Co-Curricular Choral Ensemble Opportunities Cantate Crooners and Chordettes are the co-curricular ensembles offered at MHS as an enrichment opportunity for the most motivated and talented students in the choral program. This group meets one afternoon per week. Membership in this ensemble is based on the outcome of auditions from the previous spring. Students who wish to participate in this ensemble must be members of one of the curricular ensembles, which meet during the regular school day. Any student interested in either of this ensemble is encouraged to speak to one of the chorus teachers for more information. Cantate offers an opportunity to explore different musical styles and performance experiences than can be offered during our curricular periods. The nature of this group is intended to challenge and inspire our singers to work towards greater musical independence and increased self-motivation.
