June 2014 Newsleer Big Breakfast We would like to thank everyone who took part in the Big Breakfast at Norbury on Friday 13th June. It was a fantasc morning enjoyed by children, parents and sta. We raised £445.00 for Macmillan Cancer Support Charity. Thank you once again for your continued support. Photographs of the morning can be viewed on the school website. STEP - UP MATHS As you know, your children have been enjoying maths learning through Step Up Maths . This way of planning and teaching allows for children to have dierent starng points and for them to reach their maximum potenal in all areas of maths. There are a variety of ladders covering, addion, subtracon, mulplicaon, division, shape and fracons. Teachers use games, learning tablets and a range of other resources to support learning. More informaon will follow via the PC4L. Norbury School Cook Book During the Easter Holidays the children were asked to design a front cover for our Norbury School Cookbook. We had hundreds of entries and the standard was extremely high. We were looking for a design that reected Norbury, ‘A World in a School Learning Together’. We are delighted to announce that the winners are Shakeel in 4B and Malik in 1T. Well Done boys your design will be the front cover of the Norbury School Cookbook. We would like to say a huge thank you to everybody who entered and for all their amazing contribuons. Secondary Transfer Day On Wednesday 2nd July, all pupils in Year 6 who are aending a Harrow secondary school in September, will be spending the day at their new school. Pupils will need to make their own travel arrangements , as Norbury do not organise transport for inducon days. Your child should wear their Norbury School uniform. Dinner Money must be paid in advance. It is very me consuming for the oce sta to chase unpaid monies for meals. Children must choose to have hot meals for the enre week as we do not have capacity for children to choose to have hot dinners on a daily basis. The price for a meal is £1.70 per day (£8.50 per week). Nutrionist, Lee Murray visited Norbury recently and worked with children and parents oering praccal help and advice on the benets of healthy eang He talked about the amount of sugar we all eat on a daily basis and inspired us to reduce our sugar intake by introducing various healthy snack opons to beat those sugar cravings. When working with the children Mr Murray asked them to count out the number of sugar cubes in a small bowl of Coco Pops, there were 4½! Did you also know in just 1 can of zzy drink there are 9 cubes of sugar , as well as all those addives.! An informave and inspiring morning was had by all involved. NORBURY FRUIT & VEG STALL The Norbury Fruit & Veg stall is open for business every Thursday under the shelter in the Infant Playground, from 8.30am—9.15am 2.45pm—3.30pm. Please remember to bring carrier bags for your fruit and vegetable purchases. We are also selling Norbury ‘bags for life’ for £2.
