President’s oreword I was honoured to become President at our AGM in London last November. My years as an active Member have given me the confdence and understanding to take on this highly prestigious role. My principal aim as President has been to make stronger connections with all members at a local level. I take pride that I am a passionate advocate or the Region/Centre networks. I truly believe that they are the lieblood o proessional bodies and help create CIAT’s distinct personality. As such, much o my activity has been visiting the Regions and engagement with members at the local level, learning about their issues as well as promoting the Institute and what it is doing at strategic as well as operational level. Many o my Regional visits have been linked with CPD events, Award/student presentations or membership promotions. These are key activities o a proessional body. During the year we had some excellent and high profle Award winners and I had the pleasure in visiting the winning projects or the Open Award or Technical Excellence in Architectural Technology and the Alan King Award, and making the plaque presentations − a thoroughly enjoyable experience. I also enjoyed very much hosting the Awards Luncheon, held at the abulous Freemasons Hall, in January and in particular awarding David Cracknell his Honorary membership − well deserved! Honorary membership is a very special and rarely awarded accolade; we currently have only 17 Honorary members. David received his Honorary membership or his immeasurable work and inuence or, and on behal o, the education o those within Architectural Technology, and his immense and signifcant contribution to the Institute’s membership qualiying process. Without the drive, skills and character o David, the Institute would not be where it is today and the discipline would not be as respected as it is now. His work has ensured that the Institute remains ’exclusive yet inclusive.’ As Chairman o the Executive Board and the Governing Council I have also ociated over the approval o the Corporate Plan which sits alongside the fve year Strategic Plan initiated by Colin Orr, my immediate predecessor, as President. 2 CIAT Annual Review 2013-14
