Paralympian joins in Sutton Community Academy’s sporting un A Sports Day with a twist recently took place at Sutton Community Academy. Organised by Natwest, local businesses competed in a series o un activities such as wheelchair basketball and cider bobbing. Ollie Hynd MBE, Paralympic champion came along to join in with the un and show o his vast collection o medals. The event was a antastic opportunity to showcase Sutton Community Academy’s leisure and catering acilities, as everyone ended the night with well-deserved homemade chips and burgers. Rock Assembly More than 700 Trust pupils enjoyed a antastic ree concert at Wembley Arena in July as reward or their volunteering eorts. The lucky pupils attended the Rock Assembly gig alongside 10,000 ellow school children and included artists such as Proessor Green and Conor Maynard. To claim a ticket, pupils completed a range o digital champion activities such as showing a grandparent how to create an email account or training a amily or community member how to upload images. One enterprising pupil even helped their Dad set up an eBay account and showed him how he could get selling. Mildenhall College Academy opens new sixth orm centre Mildenhall College Academy celebrated the opening o its new sixth orm centre, MCA6 in late September, the frst dedicated education centre or over-16s in the local Suolk area. The new centre has been a part o Principal, Susan Byles’ vision or the academy or some time and was made possible in part by unding rom The Trust. The new acility includes a recording studio, lecture theatre, science labs, dark room and dance studio. Susan said: “The centre will not only provide excellent and bespoke sixth orm acilities, but it also has the potential to develop as a urther and higher education centre or the wider community”. News rom across our academies Mildenhall College Academy creates historic WW1 memorial Over the past 18 months, pupils and sta at Mildenhall College Academy have been part o a historic First World War collaborative project, thought to be the frst o its kind within Europe. Working alongside a German school, pupils have worked together to produce a memorial commemorating the 1914 Christmas truce ollowing a trip to the battlefelds o Flanders and subsequent exchange visits. Situated at the Peace Village o Mesen, the monument will now have a grand unveiling in December at a ceremony planned by the pupils. 100th birthday party at Iceni Academy During the summer, pupils, sta and parents past and present came together at Iceni Academy’s Primary site in Hockwold to celebrate its 100 years o educating the community. To mark the centenary 100 balloons were released by pupils and the academy was opened to the local community. The day was rounded o by the burying o a time capsule in the school grounds.
