August 2014 Dear Educator, Another school year is set to begin and the Long Island Children’s Museum is excited to collaborate with you on the exhilarating challenge of inspiring children to explore, discover and learn . We understand the challenges educators, administrators and school districts face to provide students with the most effective and engaging learning experiences that will allow them to discover their full potential. As you leaf through the pages, you will find details on an array of thematic field trips, vibrant theater productions, exciting outreach programs and fascinating STEM activity days; all developed with our shared goal in mind. The Children’s Museum has been a favorite educational resource for students and teachers for more than 20 years. Whether your students take part in museum-basedprograms or you bring our hands-on programs to your school, LICM’s play-basedmethods will provide your students with dynamic and memorable educational experiences. These hands-on lessons complement your classroom curriculum in science, math, social studies, language arts, and the arts to create true cross-curricular experiences. The arrival of three new traveling exhibits at the Museum this year, allows us to offer new learning environments to complement our popular permanent galleries—all designed to address the range of learning styles and develop- mental phases of school age children. (See page 10 for new exhibit offerings.) We know that schools struggle to stretch budgets to provide students with valuable field trip experiences. We also know that educators love a “good deal.” Our popular “Double Your Learning” option was created specifically to address these realities by allowing you to maximize your Museum experi- ence while managing transportation expenses. (Check out this great deal on page 16.) I look forward to welcoming you to the Long Island Children’s Museum this year and to sharing the excitement of learning with your students. Sincerely, Aimee Terzulli Director of Education P.S.—Don’t forget the personal discount we o ffer to teachers’ families through our Educators Membership plan.
