Also needed is socks, underwear, shorts DeSoto Trail Art Program B K@_ SI```, A TI The DeSoto Trail Special Area theme this year is “Building Our Trailblazers Brick by Brick.” The art program at DeSoto Trail is a comprehensive art educaon program based on the Florida Visual Arts Standards. Emphasis is on educang a well-rounded child through exploratory experiences that introduce a variety of two- and three- dimensional concepts and ideas, exposure to mulple mediums, and the safe use of materials. Observaon skills, prior knowledge, and art cricism skills are employed to reect on and interpret works of art. During the rst nine weeks, all students created Square 1 Art designs based on personal interests. Square 1 Art ( www.square1art.com ) is a creave school fundraiser that turns your child’s art into useful keepsakes. Kindergarten and rst grade students created handprint bu:eries they embellished with line, shape, color and pa:ern. Order packets will be sent home the week of September 29 and include FREE sckers of your child’s art. The online order deadline is October 9 and products will arrive at school on October 30. Take this opportunity to order keepsakes to celebrate special occasions for family members throughout the year. The prots raised will go right back into the art program. Welcome to Ms. Chandler, FSU art intern! Ms. Chandler has developed some excing units centered on the Big Idea “Art is Everywhere” for our Trailblazers. The unit goal for fourth and h grade is self-expression through observaon. Students are learning about art journaling, Leonardo da Vinci, and papermaking while they hone their observaon skills and create a personal journal. The unit goal for second and third grade is self-expression through color use. Students are engaged in a color study reviewing primary, secondary, warm and cool colors while they learn to use complementary colors in their artwork. Arsts of interest in this unit include van Gogh, Masse, and Monet. The unit goal for kindergarten and rst grade is self-expression and imaginaon. Students are studying the elements of line, shape, and color and the proper use of tools while they develop crasmanship. Main arsts integrated in this unit are Masse, Miro, and Pollock. Ms. Chandler will be with us unl October 10. We are all enjoying working with her! Our school’s diverse student populaon and foreign language classes in the past have oered an outstanding learning opportunity for our students, providing insight into experiences and cultures beyond our borders. We are hopeful this year we will be able to oer these courses to our students. Also, students who speak English as a second language (ESL) will be receiving addional help from their classroom teachers.
