Ability to use iMovie and make necessary edits. Knowledge of Screen Chomp. Social skills to work cooperatively. How will you teach students the objectives identified above. (List step-by-step description of the lesson.) Introduction: (how students will be introduced to the goals and what is expected of them.) This lesson will not be used until the basics of money have been taught (using our series Go Math and other sources). Prior to pairing the students up to complete the main activity, I will go over the standards. In addition, we will work through a sample problem together. Main activity: (how the teacher will facilitate the learning experience.) After working through a class sample, I will pair the students up (mixing abilities). Together the students will write a money work problem out on paper. Then, one student will act out the problem, while the other films it on iMovie. For example, the student pretends to buy something at a fake store and the problem requires that the solver figures out the change that is needed. Once the problem is filmed and any necessary edits are completed, the pairing will trade iPads with another pair of students. They will watch the problem in each iMovie and then work out the solution on the app Screen Chomp where they will draw and record the solution and explanation of the solution. Next, student pairs will trade back and check each other ’ s work. If it is correct, the pairings will call the teacher over to view the solutions. If a pair does not think it is correct, they will give the students another chance to solve the word problem. If it is still incorrect, they four students can work together to find a solution. I would have the groups complete 2-3 movies/solutions each. Conclusion: (how the teacher will bring closure for students and provide feedback.) Upon completing the task, students will be required to select the movie and Screen Chomp solution they think is their best. The teacher will then use these to evaluate the pair. In addition, the students will have a short self and partner evaluation to fill out and turn in. Extension: (how the lesson will be extended. Procedures include strategies for differentiated instruction.) For more advanced learners, I would give them the chance to make a problem up on their own during center time. The iMovies could then be used by other students to solve using Screen Chomp during their center time. What accommodations and modifications will you incorporate to meet the needs of diverse students? Since I teach in a co-taught classroom, I would have a small group of students that would require a little more guidance from a teacher. Those children would either be placed in a small group that worked directly with a teacher/aide or would be partnered up with an advanced learner.
