About Us The History, Arts and Cultural Association (HACA), formerly Friends of the Museum, began back in 1966 with the establishment of the East Otter Tail County Historical Society. Today, HACA encompasses an expanded mission and three properties in Perham, Minnesota. Our most recent addition to the family is Perham’s Pioneer Village, a scenic 25 acre indoor and outdoor park-like venue dotted with historic structures, a bandstand, vintage ballroom and kitchen building. This property is owned by the City of Perham and is managed by HACA for community use. The site is also host to HACA’s Pioneer Festival. In Their Own Words Veterans Museum building opened in 2006, in large part through community support. A full-service restaurant and bar previously took up half of the 14,000sf building. Without this nonprofit/commercial mix, there was no longer a healthy financial base. HACA leadership made bold moves to follow through on assessment recommendations, including closing the thrift store that occupied the former restaurant space, and are in process in creating a different occupancy mix which will result in the building emerging with a new name, and containing a higher level of activity, while retaining the museum. The working title for the building is the HACA Events Center, which encompasses In Their Own Words Veterans Museum and HACA’s Art and Events Gallery- a midsize venue with art gallery walls, sound system and audio visual systems for a myriad of multi- media cultural events. The History Museum of East Otter Tail County, which has recently rejoined with the East Otter Tail Historical Society, is where our artifact cataloging and genealogical research are centered in the old library building in Perham. The former historical society ceased as a nonprofit. HACA reserved the name with the MN Secretary of State and intends to officially register it as one of our trade names in 2015. HACA manages Perham’s newest public art project, a three- dimensional mural depicting community scenes that is being installed on the Photo Magic building at the corner of 1 st Avenue and Main Street in downtown Perham. It is intended that this privately funded $45,000 project will be the inspiration for annual public art projects managed by HACA for the region. The diversity of our programs in fine arts, arts learning, museum exhibitions and tours, genealogy, folk art presentations, the Perham Pioneer Festival, education in humanities, lively music and theatre create unique opportunities for cultural enrichment and exchange of ideas.
