Comfort = the state of physical ease and freedom from pain or constraint / things that contribute to wellbeing/ consolation for anxiety/ reassurance. What things comfort you? The view of a hillside with fresh untouched snow… the smell of a mountain morning in fall… the sound of a purring cat… a backrub… a hug… the sound of a gentle rain...laughter… walking barefoot in the grass...the smell of your baby after his bath? How about the feeling of knowing what every outcome is going to be because you are so prepared and well versed? You will nail the next presentation because you are sticking to what you know and you’ve done it a million times. Sound familiar? Not a bad thing...right? We all want to “nail it”. Glynn Johnson said to us a few weeks ago that he is sure he will only grow if he remains “comfortably uncomfortable”. Hmm. Made us start thinking about last month’s letter about change. If things don’t change, they remain the same… makes sense. How do we grow if we don’t try new things? Do we want status quo? If not, we may well find ourselves feeling discomfort, anxiety or unease on occasion. That’s ok —don’t be afraid of it. Grab it, learn it, nail it , and then move onward and upward. The sky is the limit. The amount of opportunity that we have at Gallagher for learning new things is boundless, and hopefully we’ll all take advantage of that. Remember to reach out and challenge yourself to find that fine line of discomfort and while you’re at it, challenge the person to your right...or your left , to do the same. Think about this quote from an unnamed source: “Life begins at the end of your comfort zone”. Thanks to all of you for all you do! John & Deb Thought for the Day : “ The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy. ” ~Martin Luther King
