President’s Message Anthony DiProperzio, AIA President As difcult as it is to believe, the summer is over. Hopefully everyone enjoyed the great weather and had a chance to relax a little by taking some time off from their daily routines. Since our last Podium I am happy to report that our Board has continued its dedicated service to our membership and offer the following updates of our activities: ARE Classes Our latest class in Programming and Planning was given by Martin Hero and completed with great success. We are now scheduling a class in Professional Practice which I will head up this fall. An- nouncements are being sent out for registration shortly. Emerging Professionals Graciela Carrillo and Jacob Rivalsi will represent our Chapter and attend a presentation “2014 Future Now Summit” on September 13, 2014. Tours Joseph Randazzo and James Martino have arranged a eld trip to Fallingwater scheduled for October 2nd and 3rd. The Chapter has made arrangements to have a chartered bus available for transportation. The tour is limited to 30 persons and is on, a rst come rst serve basis. Website Thanks to the efforts of Christopher Wuest the Chapter website has been totally redesigned. The new layout is quite impressive and user friendly. We invite all to take a look and make good use of the information provided. Archi Awards The Chapter will be celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Archi Awards this year. The event will be held at the Fox Hollow Inn on October 15, 2014. To date we have 62 submissions. I hope that all of our members will be attending this historic event. Video Series The Board has nalized the subject matter and presentation outlines for the upcoming video series. The series will consist of multiple ve minute presentations which will include lectures on hiring an architect, the value of an AIA architect, the LI AIA and the ve basic services of the architect as part of our Public Awareness Program and will be aired via Web TV-Long Island TV. Once all is nalized we will present the program to the membership. Government Affairs For those members who do work in the City of New York please note that the 2014 version of the Building Code of New York City will go into effect on October 1, 2014. The Code can be purchased thru ICC or the NYC Bookstore. As I write this on September 11, 2014 I can’t help but reect on the attack on our nation in 2001. Although it is 13 years ago, the memory and scars of that day remain as though it were yesterday. May God bless all the souls taken on that day and their families and keep us all safe in the future. Thanks to all for all the work put in over the summer months to continue the growth of the organiza- tion and services to our members. Sincerely, Anthony DiProperzio, AIA President AIA LI 2014
