Chapter 7 “Lover” (58 -66) This chapter is about a slave girl named Linda complaining about the pain of being a slave as she is in love. In the beginning she met her lover on street and as time passed they eventually fell in love . They couldn’t get married even if her lover offered to buy her, because Dr. F lint was selfish and evil. The slave girl didn’t want her terrible fate as a slave to drag him down, so she asked him to leave her behind and go to a free state because it’s a safer environment for him. Linda made this bold and strong decision after hearing Dr. Flint threat. Dr. Flint threatens to kill them if he ever see them together or even near each other. She advised her lover to never come back because she believes his intelligence and his voice of freedom are important to the future of African-Americans. The thought of their future was unknown but Linda knew the result of their marriage and the pain they would have to endure as a family. She knew if they had children, their children would suffer the same fate as them and the children would have to experience through the same cycle of pain as a slave and racism just like their parent. “For his fate, I felt that I ought not to link his fate with my own unhappy destiny.”
