Food/water: December 20 th ,1912 Ever since Ninnis has died, our dogs have given out one by one. Once a few of my dogs were unable to pull the sledge, Xavier and I took it upon ourselves to load them on the sledge and brought them to our camp for the night. That ’ s where their journey ended. Mertz and I shot all three of them with the riffle. We were running out of food. So, we both ate the stringy dog meat and gave the bones to our remaining dogs, which fought for every scrap thrown their way. It seems like even the dogs humanity has left them.
