The Week in Review Prospect vs Palatine Varsity 20 – 33 JV 0 - 21 Sophomore 0 – 41 Freshman A 13 – 35 Freshman B 27 – 0 Sophomores Look to Build Momentum Lets Go Knights! After falling at Palatine 41-0, Prospect's sophomore football team is looking for their first win on the field at about the mid-point of this season. More importantly, the team has players making plays with determination. At times, the defense flies to the ball, overwhelming opposing running backs and the offensive line blocks with emotion and desire. There have been highlights from every game this season so far, and the contest with Palatine was no exception. Against the Pirates in the first half: ! Josh McDermott has made impact plays on offense and defense in the first two games and, now on special teams, blocked a PAT after the first Palatine touchdown. ! Anthony Liva saved a touchdown by chasing down a Palatine ball carrier after a 40 yard run. He is also carrying a Division 1 punting average, consistently booming 50 yarders and pinning opponents deep all season, including Friday night. ! Drew Compton and Alex Palczewski recovered Palatine fumbles. ! The defense rang up a few impressive gang tackles and Vince Lobono made two outstanding solo tackles. ! Stu Isteefanos and Dante Cecala carried the ball and ran hard, gaining good yardage and finishing runs to the whistle. ! Jeremy Potratz and Lobono combined for a big stop followed by Ryan Roggeman making a difficult solo tackle for a loss. ! McDermott, now on offense, caught a 10 yard pass from Chase Cummings and turned it into a 33 yard gain. ! A few plays later, Zach Gleason caught another pass from Cummings for 9 yards. ! Throughout the first half, Sam Lumia, AJ Salvadore, Ryan Roggeman, Vince Shields and Evan Sadlon on the offensive line gave the QB time to find the open receiver. In the second half: ! Drew Compton kick-started the Knights defense on the kick-off with a diving solo tackle on the return after a short gain. ! The Prospect defense followed Compton's lead with consecutive big plays. Salvadore stopped the Pirate running back for a loss on first down. On second down, Isteefanos and Lobono combined for a tackle to set up a third and long. ! Later, with Palatine driving deep into Prospect territory, Vince Lobono again dialed up a huge hit on first down for no gain. ! On the next play, Anthony Liva made his second TD saving tackle of the game. ! Dante Cecala ripped two runs, one 32 yards and a few plays later a 15 yarder. Vince Shields and AJ Salvadore gave extra effort blocking on both runs to spring Cecala loose. ! The defense held Palatine to 7 points in the last two quarters. While the game against Palatine may be one that everyone will want to move past, the team learned a lot. This group of dedicated sophomores are capable of coming together, improving what they do and making more plays consistently. The team is looking to rebound against Hersey this Saturday morning of Homecoming weekend.
