The Week in Review Prospect vs Buffalo Grove Varsity 24 – 14 Sophomore 32 – 19 Freshman A 7 – 13 Freshman B 13 – 6 Knights Take Down Bison Lets Go Knights! On Friday night at home, Prospect sophomores took on the Buffalo Grove Bison and won 32-19 for the team's second straight victory and the third win in their last four games. Spotting BG six points after the Knights gave up a touchdown on the opening kick-off, this resilient football team didn't flinch. Starting on their own 43 after the BG kickoff, Prospect scored a touchdown in 6 plays behind the running of RB Dante Cecala and QB Josh Kern. Dante tied the score 6-6 with a slashing 7 yard dash to the end zone on second and goal. Drew Compton was an impact player on defense and an emotional leader on the field until injuries forced him to the sideline. In his place for the past two games, Sam Lumia stepped in and brought his own brand of toughness to the 'Mike' linebacker position. Against BG, Sam led the defense in solo tackles. After the game, Lumia talked about the Knights team concept and the attitude it takes for every player to be ready to contribute: "We've been preparing ever since Day 1. We haven't been afraid to put in back-ups to play, myself included. We all want to get on the field and this game was no different. Especially this week, we knew exactly what we needed to do to get the job done and we went out and did it." The second quarter started with the Bison on the Prospect 2 yard line, scoring a touchdown on fourth down to go ahead 6-13. During the 10-play drive, Sam Lumia (twice), Josh McDermott and Evan Sadlon made big tackles for little or no gain. Prospect answered quickly with a 75-yard touchdown return on the ensuing BG kickoff by Dante Cecala. He followed great blocking around the left side to pull the Knights within 1 point, 12-13. The long return for a score inspired the defense. On first and 10 from the BG 33, the defensive line and linebackers converged from all angles on the Bison runner before he reached the line of scrimmage, jarring the ball loose. Alex Palczewski recovered the fumble for Prospect. As this season has progressed, so has Palczewski; he has become a disruptive, physical force in the interior of the defensive line. The Knights needed just 3 plays to cover 33 yards for another touchdown. Dante Cecala scored on an 18 yard run for 6 points and Jeremy Potratz converted the PAT to put Prospect up 19-13. The Knights defense kept the pressure on the opposition, forcing a BG punt after 4 plays and allowing Prospect to start first and 10 at midfield with just over 2 minutes left in the second quarter. After nine plays, the Knights turned the ball over on downs, leaving BG to run the last play of the first half from their own 31, gaining no yards. Stu Isteefanos fielded the second half kickoff at the 20 and returned it 20 yards. Prospect began their possession on the 40 yard line and ran 5 plays before punting the ball to BG. The drive included an 18 yard power run by Dante Cecala who refused to be taken down by just one defender. With the Bison starting their drive on their own 25, Isteefanos wrapped up the BG ball carrier and dropped him for no gain. On second and 10, AJ Salvadore made an outstanding play breaking up an attempted screen pass. Salvadore showed keen awareness by starting to rush the passer but then dropped back to cover the running back, forcing the Bison QB to throw the ball at the ground, incomplete. After no gain on 3rd down, BG punted, giving the ball to the Knights at the Bison 48. (Cont’d on pg 6)
