Founded in 2012, New Lens Urban Mentoring Society (NLUMS) has created a mentorship program to assist young Black men in navigating the vast achievement gap in the Saint Paul Public School district. To date, NLUMS serves over 170 young Black men in the Saint Paul metro area. To achieve this, we have convened a mentoring society of over 50 Black adult men and Black Elder men. Together, we provide Black culturally congruent and intergenerational mentorship for all the members of NLUMS. The program began in partnership with Saint Paul Public Schools and the Saint Paul Public Schools Foundation. While NLUMS spun off from the Foundation in 2015, its partnership with Saint Paul Public Schools continues today. As the end of the year of 2015, NLUMS’ fiscal partner as an independent non-profit organization is Rondo Ave, Inc.
