The Brit- ish 1980s music icon is in San Antonio on Thursday, announcing the donation of his vast collec- tion of artifacts related to the 1836 Battle of the Alamo and the Texas Revolution. Texas Land Commissioner Jerry Patterson says the 63-year- old Genesis singer-drummer is looking for a home for his collec- tion. It mostly has been kept in Collins’ home in Switzerland. Patterson says some artifacts could go on display at the Alamo within a year. He says Collins has the world’s largest private collec- tion of Texas Revolution artifacts. Collins first became an Alamo aficionado watching the 1950s Disney miniseries on Davy Crock- ett as a lad in England. But he was always pro- pelled — in acting and in life — by a mischievousness and an abiding playfulness that made him a tireless per- former, an enduring family man and, of course, one immortal scoundrel. “I never lost my appetite for acting,” Wallach wrote in his 2005 memoir “The Good, the Bad, and Me,” named after his most famous film. “I feel like a magician.” Wallach died Tuesday evening from natural caus- es after 98 years of life, 66 years of marriage to Anne Jackson and some 100 films, including sev- eral he made in his 90s.
