Objectives of the Band Program 1. Cultural: To continue the development of music appreciation and understanding through the study and performance of high quality band literature. 2. Educational: To develop competent performance levels on each student’s chosen instrument and a sufficient musical background for further musical growth; and to develop self-discipline, poise, emotional maturity, leadership, responsibility, self-expression and critical analysis. 3. Service: To lend color and atmosphere to selected athletic and civic events while promoting and enhancing the dignity and reputation of the school as well as spirit and morale in the school. 4. Recreation: To provide all students of the school with an opportunity for worthy use of leisure time, emotional outlet, social interaction and physical well-being. General Rules and Procedures 1. Chewing gum is not permitted during rehearsal or in the band hall. 2. Food and drink are not permitted in the band hall. 3. Be at your rehearsal area, ready to play, on time. 4. Keep your hands off of anything which does not belong to you. 5. Alcohol and drugs are STRICTLY PROHIBITED . All school district policies regarding such are in force during any band activity. Use of the Band Facility The use of band facilities before, after and during school is a PRIVILEGE . Students who abuse the facility will be disciplined accordingly. Any abuse or damage will be considered vandalism. NO OUTSIDE STUDENTS ARE PERMITTED IN THE BAND HALL. There will be no horseplay in the band hall. All guard and percussion equipment is off limits to anyone NOT specifically designated to use them. No storing of personal items. Any personal items left in the band hall for an extended period of time will be disposed of without question. THE BANDHALL IS NOT YOUR CLOSET. Library/Office/Uniform Storage The library and uniform storage area are off limits. We try to keep these areas nice to keep your equipment nice. The band office is not to be entered by any students without permission. If the door is shut, knock first. Facility Care 1. Absolutely NO food, gum, or drink (except water) allowed in the band hall. This includes instrument room, uniform room and practice rooms. Failure to dispose of water containers will result in having this privilege revoked. 2. Students and adults may only enter the band office with permission of the director or other adult band staff. Students will NOT be in office unless an adult is present. 3. Large instrument cases are to be kept in the instrument room during rehearsal. All other personal items must be kept OUT of heavy traffic areas. Place these items against the wall in the hallway. Do NOT place these items in any instrument closet, practice room or storage room. Items left in these areas are subject to immediate removal/disposal.
