His songs today still exist and he is still a well-respected, prominent figure in today’s society. In 1960 Dylan began his career as a folk singer. His inspiration came from legendary folk singer, Woody Guthrie whom was later diagnosed with a rare he reditary disease of the nervous system. Dylan often visited Guthrie in hospital. Slowly he became popular in local folk singing clubs and coffee ho uses surrounding his neighbourhood. Then in 1961 the New York Times took notice about his performances and later that year he signed a contract with a record company named Columbia records. Early 1962 Dylan released 2 singles and made his voice known to the folk world by singing popular folk songs around that time. H is album “ The Times They Are A-Changin ” established him as a strong force in the protest movement of the 1960’s. Later on through the 60’s he developed a romantic relationship with another strong force in the movement, Joan Baez. Both artists complimented each other with Dylan developinga strong fan base. However there relationship only lasted 2 years, but by that time Dylan was averaging over 200 concerts a year. Towards the end o f the 60’s Dylan grew tired of being the voice of the 60’s movement and released an album which was half acoustic and half electric. Dylan began to reinvent himself as a hybrid rock/ folk singer who brought poetry and music together. With popular titles such as, ‘Like a rolling stone ’and ‘desolation row’. In 1966 Dylan was subjected to almost a year in hospital after a close to fatal motorcycle accident. His next to albums were re leased 2 years later, they featured guitar legend jimmy Hendrix. The album was complimented by many saying it had a better mellow feeling to it. In19 73 Dylan made an appearance in a feature film Pat Garret and billy the kid, he also wrote the films sound track which not long after became a hi tsingle. In 1976 Dylan released his first number 1 album named, Desire. It included the song hurricane which was a success in the retrial of boxer Rub in carter who was blamed for the triple homicide of 1967. In the 1980s Dylan went touring with legends the heart breakers, Tom petty and grateful dead. He released many notable albumsov er the next few years including Oh mercy, knocked out loaded and bio graph. In 1994 Bob Dylan was presented with a Grammy award for being thebe st traditional folk singer. In recent times bob Dylan has produced 5 new albums since 2006. He continues to produce poetic musical masterpieces which conti nue to influence and inspire people of today. Dylan had 4 children one of which Jakobnow is the lead singer for the rock band wall flowers. 3
