Issa age: 10 guardian(s): Mrs. Okeke relationship: mother Opening Conversation • It’s good to see you again, Mrs. Okeke. How is your family? • Issa has been talking about your upcoming trip to Mbeya. He’s very excited to see his cousins. That’s where you’re from, is it not? • Do you mind if I take notes during our meeting? Report on Academic Progress / Concerns • Issa’s strongest subjects are art and music as you know. He’s very creative, and his art teacher has said more than once that he’s got real talent. Did you see his painting and sculpture when you entered the school? He’s the only student who has two pieces in the student show! • Did you receive the copy of Issa’s test scores I sent to you? I also sent some information from the Ministry of Education about the Primary School Leaving Examination. • Unfortunately, Issa’s math test results are below the expected level of proficiency. (Examples on next page.) Report on Social Progress / Concerns • Issa is friendly with the other students in the class, especially Suhuba. • Issa almost always follows the classroom rules. He listens to his teachers and is respectful. • Have you seen any issues related to his social or emotional development? He is a very kind and considerate boy. From my view, no problems. Sum Up / Next Steps? • Suhuba is quite strong in the areas where Issa needs improvement. What do you think about the two boys working together after school two or three times a week? I think it would be good for both of them. Will you speak to Issa about it? I will talk with Suhuba and his guardian, and I’ll contact you via phone next week. Would that be all right?
