I. Study Materials A. Looseleaf binder, designated solely for English, with the following divisions: 1. Literature 2. Writing You are responsible for bringing your looseleaf binder, with an ample supply of paper in it, to class with you every day. No work will be accepted on folded or torn out spiral pages. B. Textbooks – Your textbooks must be brought to class with you every day. C. Pens – Use blue or black pen for all assignments, unless otherwise instructed. D. Multi-colored pens, pencils, and/or highlighters E. Post-It Page Markers F. Computer Disk or Flash Drive II. Class Performance (Preparedness and Participation) and Attendance As I will be ready to teach when the bell rings, you are expected to be seated and ready to learn at the same time. Please remember that teaching and learning go hand in hand; your participation in classroom discussions and activities is essential to your learning and to your enjoyment of this class. Because our class is based heavily on the performance and participation of its students, I expect you all to be active participants by not only coming to class promptly and prepared with your supplies, but also by contributing proactively to class at least once daily. Please also remember that being absent does not excuse you from the material covered in class. If you are out from class, it is your responsibility to find out what work you missed and need to do. You will have up to 5 days to complete any quizzes or exams missed due to absenteeism. III. Written Assignments We will write numerous processed compositions including: creative projects, personal reflections, literary analysis, Regents preparation, and a term research paper. All work is expected to reflect proper usage of formal Standard English and to be typed or neatly written in blue or black ink. IV. Homework Assignments A. Unless I have approved an extension, a homework assignment is accepted for full credit only on the day and period it is due. B. At the beginning of each marking period, each student will receive 100 points in his “homework bank.” For each missing assignment, 5 points wi ll be deducted. C. Late homework will be accepted up to one day after the due date; for each late assignment, 2 points will be deducted from your homework bank. D. Students will be allowed one free late homework assignment per quarter. E. In the event that you are absent, contact a “partner” or myself to obtain your work. F. If you are absent on the day that an assignment is due, you are expected to bring the assignment in on the day you return to school. Mrs. Levine’s Procedures and Expectations for English 9 Pre-AP
