determined not to be out done by a girl, especially not by this girl. I finished the race just a foot ahead. Zia and I bent down on our knee's trying to regain our breath." I swear I run my fastest when I'm with you but I'm always just a hair behind," said Zia frowning. “I run my fastest to, but let’s face it, I will always be the winner," I said smiling in triumph. "Hey guys stop staring at each other and look at this guy throwing his girlfriend in the air," said Piper pointing to the ice rink. Zia and I turned our gaze to where Piper was pointing with a blush on our faces. The man was holding what I assumed to be his girlfriend in the air while spinning around on one foot. "If I ever have to get a boyfriend I want him to be able to do that," said Piper in complete awe. We watched the man and his girlfriend for almost an hour before darkness started to creep into the sky and it was time for us to head home. Zia let out a big breath, “ Guys I don't think we're going to make it home in time". "I was just thinking the same thing," agreed Piper. "We're going to have to take a few short cuts or something," insisted Zia. "How about we take the alley on 24th street," I suggested shrugging my shoulders. "Ya let's do that and if we have to we can run the last few blocks," Zia said nodding her head. It wasn't long before 24th street loomed in front of us. "Do we have to take the alley?" whined Piper shifting on her feet. "Sorry pipe, but we have to if we want our butt's still intact by tomorrow," I said while limping a few steps for emphasis. "I agree with Grayson on this one," said Zia smiling over at Piper. "I know it’s the smart thing to do but why does the alley have to be so dark and creepy," complained Piper looking at the alley's entrance hesitantly. "Piper, just think of it like this, A) that were either going to die and finally figure out if there's a heaven or not, or B) we're going to live and get home on time," I said pulling her closer to the alley. "Ugh okay," Piper said grabbing Zia's hand and walking toward the alley. I will give Piper some credit about the alley being creepy. Every step we took echoed and a car engine idled nearby. We had gotten halfway through the long alley when we heard a noise that made us all stop. It was the sound of someone running, their footsteps getting louder and louder. It was then that I got enough nerve to turn around. There was a man in his late 20's with pure white hair running toward us with a gun in his hand. "RUN!" I shouted taking off at a dead sprint. I could hear Zia and Piper close behind but it wasn't rocket science to tell that the man was gaining on us. We couldn't have been more than 10 feet from the end of the alley when I heard Piper crash to the ground. I turned around, if I helped Piper up I would get caught and if I didn't than she would get caught. It was a no-brainer, I ran back to Piper quickly lifting her to her feet and giving her strict orders to run I hadn't even noticed that Zia had stopped until I got pummeled to the ground only inches from her. She gave me a scared smile. I couldn't help but feel guilty, If I hadn't have talked them into going through the alley we would all be safely on our way to home. "Well I guess we’re going to find out if there's a heaven," I whispered smiling.
