Prior Knowledge Exemplar Texts for Class Library In year 4, students investigated the early explorers to Australia, and the arrival of the James Cook and the First Fleet, and a re familiar with the ways that aboriginal Australians previously lived here before settlement. At a year 5 level they have previously written narratives, recounts, reports and persuasive writing pieces. They have previousl y used graphic organisers and discussed structural and language features of various exemplar texts. They are familiar with use of the internet, although still need some guidance in this area when searching for information. They have had some experience using basic features of word processing software. They are confident with using iPads. They are also familiar with procedures surrounding guided reading and literacy centres, as well as word sorts for spelling.
