Name:_______________________________________Bell:_______________Date:_________________ Goals and Objective(s) of the Lesson: 1. Solve problems using equivalent ratios. 2. Create a word problem that requires equivalent ratios to solve. Prerequisite Skill(s) Needed: Students need to be able to write ratios and rates. They also need to know how to write equivalent ratios. How will you teach students the objectives identified above. (List step-by-step description of the lesson. ) • Introduction: (how students will be introduced to the goals and what is expected of them.) 1. The recording sheet for the lesson will be handed out to students as they enter the classroom. They will complete the Do Now (write equivalent ratios). (The recording sheet is included at the end of this lesson.) 2. We will go over the Do Now as a class. 3. Group students in pairs. Try to pair up a higher-level student with a lower level student. 4. The activity will be explained by going over the recording sheet. 5. I-Pads will be passed out and I will walk students through the steps of the lesson. • Main activity: (how the teacher will facilitate the learning experience.) 1. Explain to students that they will go to the Khan Academy App or Scan QR code from number 1 on the recording sheet. If using the app, click math, click 6 th grade, click Ratios, rates, and percentages, click Ratio word problems. 2. Watch the first 2 videos about ratios. As you watch, fill in your recording sheet. This is part of your participation grade today. 3. Once you finish watching the videos, complete the practice problems on Khan Academy. Record your work and answers on the recording sheet. 4. Write your own ratio word problem on your recording sheet. 5. Then scan the QR code from part 4 or go to padlet.com/wall/qfhp49i3z2sy (password: viking). 6. Post your word problem. Be sure to include only your first name. 7. Once you have created a word problem on padlet, read another student’s problem and post an answer to their question. • Conclusion: (how the teacher will bring closure for students and provide feedback.) 1. Pick out some good examples from the padlet page. Talk about how you would solve them. 2. Discuss with the class some components of word problems that tell you to use ratios or rates.
