Pet Vaccinations Pet vaccinations (shots) are very important to your pet's health. Dogs and cats are at risk of contacting contagious diseases when exposed to other animals and the environment. Vaccinations help protect your pet from these diseases. Dogs and cats routinely receive vaccinations from when they are a couple of months old and then as needed throughout their lives. Some vaccinations are done annually. Some vaccinations are done every third year. Rabies vaccinations are required by the state, all others are optional.
