Character Types: A2 MEDIA STUDIES D.I.S.T.I.N.C.T. HORROR Im going to list the different types of characters which make up a lm and how the audience identies them. The Protagonist: This is often a female role, they are usually the most morally standing and smartest of the group, they almost always survive in order to pave way for a sequel. The Sex appeal: This role is often lled by a sexual blonde women, they are often the rst to be killed. The Irritating guy: Usually paired with the “sex appeal” these two are often rst to be killed and due to there behavior the audience isn’t usually to fussed to see them killed off. The Comeuppance guy: This guy is usually only interested in his own well being and will do anything to stay alive. But this character is nearly always killed of at the end. The Unlikely hero: This character is usually the one the audience suspects to be killed off rst as they behavior suggest this. However they are often the one to save the day. The Bad guy: This is the villain(s) we don't get to know much about there personal life but we assume that they are mentally unstable of have a reason for the horrible things they are doing. Themes: The theme of the horror lm is practically the recurring element within a lms plot. I like to split horror lms into six different themes; the serial killfest, the overwhelming gore, monsters & creatures, the unknown terror, the mass undead infestation and the “how can this happen to a camera crew”?!
