A Long Journey By Mona Basnet When I was in Nepal, I was so happy with my beautiful, small family. I lived with my mommy, daddy, and my two brothers. It was 2011 and I was in the 8 th grade, and my brothers were in middle school. My mommy cooked food for the whole family and my daddy went out to work in the fields. At night we all got together and eat dinner. After that, we did some homework. This is the way we used to live our life. In Nepal I really liked to travel to different places like the temple, river, and mountains. My brother and I fought a lot about food and money. I still loved him and he loved me, too. My mommy always said to me, “You need to be a great person, Try to stand on your own legs, and try to be yourself.” I remember that my mommy used to yell at me in the morning about my future. I felt so bad when she started yelling at me because other parents didn’t yell like my mom did. I never used to hurt my parents and I wanted to live freely where I could enjoy my life without any responsibility. I felt so sad. I always used to be angry, and my mom always said to me, when I was a child, I used to cry and I never talked to anyone. I was fourteen years old, and when I looked at my past life, I felt so happy but also sad too. I remember that I never wanted to wake up for school in the refugee camp. “Wake up for school,” shouted my mom. “ No! I ’ m so tired, ” I responded. After I woke up, I took a shower, and put on my school dress. Sometimes we even had school on the weekends. Every holiday, we had school off and the family would get together and talk about everything.
