Once again, welcome to the annual Audacious Muse the Jack Young Middle School writing contest where you can show off your creativity and personality, and even get your work (judged by Mr. Frisch’s awesome TI group) published in our wonderful magazine. Before getting to the stories, we need to thank a few people. Thank you to everyone who helped get this magazine published by attended the benefit concert and, thanks to everyone who gave us donations! Also thanks to Justin Woods for helping us raise funding for this magazine. Thanks to Mr. Frisch for organizing the Audacious Muse, keeping us working, and giving us the opportunity to help out in the making and judging of this magazine . And finally, a HUGE thanks to every student who submitted their short stories, poems, and memoirs. There wouldn’t be a magazine without you guys! We’ve read some really amazing pieces. Some that breezed right into getting published, and others that didn’t quite make it. Keep working on writing, you guys. It was an honor to be able to see all of these cool pieces, and we hope you’ll join in once again at next year’s annual Audacious Muse! A Special Thank You... to my T.I. Literary group. Thank you for giving your best to promote, run, and judge the JYMS Audacious Muse writing contest. We had a short period of time to accomplish a challenging task. Many students helped and worked hard to make make this magazine a reality. Thank you! UW Baraboo/Sauk County deserves thanks and praise for allowing me to work with them on their literary magazine, Spirit Lake Review last year to learn how to run a writing contest and publish a magazine. Our judges this year were Professor Kelly Dwyer and student Elizabeth Onheiber both from UW-BSC and David Hase- ley from the Baraboo High School English Department. They judged our top entries to determine our overall winning submissions. Thank you for your thoughtful judging! To the JYMS teachers, my teaching team, and school administrators who helped promote the writing contest and were understanding and supportive during this arduous task, thank you so much! The AUDACIOUS MUSE is indebted to all the people who donated to the cost of printing this magazine. Thank you for sponsoring this magazine and supporting the arts and our students. You were instrumental in producing a high quality publication and in making the Audacious Muse available to all. And last but not least, thank you JYMS students for your entusiasm and for putting yourself out there and submitting your creative writing! We had many quality entries to enjoy and choose from to ll these 48 pages. So enjoy this year’s collection and begin creating next year’s entries. Carpe Diem, Mr. Frisch Judged by Kelly Dwyer, UW-BSC Senior Lecturer of English and published novelist Elizabeth Onheiber, UW-BSC student editor of the Spirit Lake Review David Haseley from the Baraboo High School English Department.
