Buletin JKEES, Bil. 1 (Mac 2014) - 2 T ECHNICAL V ISIT TO MAS ENGINEERING COMPLEX, KLIA O O n 26 th December 2013, 74 JKEES from 3 rd and 4 th year had visited Hangar 5 and 6 of Malaysian Airlines Sys- tem (MAS) Engineering Complex, KLIA. MAS was founded on the 1 st May, 1947. MAS engineering is one of the departments sta- tioned in KLIA that is responsible for maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) service of the aircraft. Most of MAS engineers are licensed aircraft engineers. All visitors will have to go through a security check before entering the complex, which is similar to the procedures in the airport. Mr Hisham Ahmad was a person in charge for the technical visit. He gave a short brief on the history of MAS, type of aircrafts used by MAS such as Boeing 747, 737, 777, Airbus A330 and A380. He elaborated about some compo- nents in aircrafts such as ailer- ons, winglet and etc. In addition, he also highlighted safety pre- cautions that need to be taken during the visits to Hangar 5 and 6. The aircraft that in- volves in the South Indian Ocean tragedy, the MH370 is 9M - MRO type. The 777 - 200 is a long range wide twin engine jet aircraft which is capable of carrying 282 passengers. We were given a permission to ex- plore every corner of the air- craft. It is the world’s biggest commercial aircraft which has 525 seats that consists of First, Business and Economy classes. As comparison, Boeing 747 has only 416 seats. Its height can match a 3 - story building which are separated into 2 cabins. Air- bus A380 uses four jet engines where it can travel up to 13500 km per trip. The fare for the first class is somewhere around RM 35k for 13 hours flight from Kua- la Lumpur to London. It has ex- clusive and stunning interior de- sign. We take this opportunity to feel the luxury of business and first class seats. As for conclusion, the students realized that they need to have professional attitude toward their Continue to page 3.... The engines are manufactured by Rolls Royce Wheel maintenance department
