After reading the life of Christ as presented in the Holy Bible and in the writings of some renowned Christian authors, Mahatma Gandhi admired the Sermon on the Mount (which shaped his whole philosophy of life), and he hoped to see the British, Church of England and Roman Catholic Church that claim to be "Christians" live up to its standards. While living with Roman Catholics and Anglicans of the Church of England's colony churches in England, South Africa and India, Gandhi expected to experience qualities like unconditional love, forgiveness, willingness to sacrifice, meekness, etc (Qualities of Jesus Christ). To his utmost dismay, the professing "Christians" in his era never lived up to the standards preached by Christ in the Sermon on the Mount and on the Cross. Seeing Gandhi live, the Christian missionary E. Stanley Jones asked him: “Mr Gandhi, though you quote the words of Christ often, why is it that you appear to so adamantly reject becoming his follower (Christian)”? Mahatma Gandhi's reply was clear: “Oh, I don’t reject your Christ. I love your Christ. It is just that so many of you Christians are so unlike your Christ.” There are six references in the Bible of Aloe Vera : 1. “And they took the body of Jesus and wound it in linen clothes with the spices and aloes as the manner of the Jews is to bury” (John 19:39-40). 2. “As the valleys are they spread forth, as gardens by the river’s side, as the trees of aloes which the Lord hath planted, [and] as cedar trees beside the waters” (Numbers 24:6). 3. “All thy garments [smell] of myrrh, and aloes [and] cassia, out of the ivory palaces, whereby they have made thee glad” (Psalms 45:8). 4. “I have perfumed my bed with myrrh, aloes, and cinnamon” (Proverbs 7:17). 5. “Spikenard and saffron; calamus and cinnamon, with all trees of frankincense; myrrh and aloes, with all the chief spices” (Song of Solomon 4:14). 6. “And there came also Nicodemus, which at the first came to Jesus by night, and brought a mixture of myrrh and aloes, about an hundred pound [weight]” (John 19:39). IRON SHARPENS IRON—THE CASE FOR CHURCH & GROUP BIBLE STUDY. Over the phone recently, Henry and I discussed a riddle of the Holy Scriptures. Henry asked me to read 1 Kings 7:1-7 and to identify who fed Elijah the prophet…LET’S SEE IF YOU CAN FIGURE THE RIDDLE OUT AFTER READING THE FOLLOWING SCRIPTURE: 1 Kings 17:1-7 (NLT) • Elijah Fed by Ravens 17 Now Elijah, who was from Tishbe in Gilead, told King Ahab, “As surely as the Lord, the God of Israel, lives—the God I serve—there will be no dew or rain during the next few years until I give the word!” 2 Then the Lord said to Elijah, 3 “Go to the east and hide by Kerith Brook, near where it enters the Jordan River. 4 Drink from the brook and eat what the ravens bring you, for I have commanded them to bring you food.” 5 So Elijah did as the Lord told him and camped beside Kerith Brook, east of the Jordan. 6 The ravens brought him bread and meat each morning and evening, and he drank from the brook. 7 But after a while the brook dried up, for there was no rainfall anywhere in the land. Strong’s Concordance to the Bible clarifies that the word, “raven” in 1 Kings 17:1-7 is referring to the actual people that the Lord sent to feed the prophet Elijah. Strong’s 6158: oreb: a raven • Original Word: בֵרֹע • Transliteration: oreb • Phonetic Spelling: (o-rabe'). Strong’s Concordance of the Bible, Number 6159, clarifies that the word, “raven” in 1 Kings 17:1-7 is referring to the Midianites . Or mowreb {o-rabe'}; the same as oreb; Oreb, the name of a Midianite and of the cliff near the Jordan – Oreb ( see Judges 7:25, (KJV). THE BIRD, THE RAVEN, WAS AN ABOMINATION TO JEWS: However, Jesus was referring to the bird raven in Luke 12:24 “Look at the ravens. They don’t plant or harvest or store food in barns, for God feeds them. And you are far more valuable to him than any birds!” The bird, the raven, was an abomination to Jews (Leviticus 11:10-17).
