Financial Literacy Project Page 2 Senior AVID News “ Stick to a task, 'til it sticks to you. Beginners are many, finishers are few." ….Anonymous Lander University Enrollment-3,038 Cost-$9,792 Average GPA-3.41 Average ACT-20 Average SAT-1000 Greenwood, SC Public College www.lander.edu SPOTLIGHT ON The senior class is going to be completing a Financial Literacy project in AVID 402. This project, called EverFi, has an online platform that the students will use to complete 10 Modules that focus on Money Management, Credit Cards, Student Loans, Saving and Checking Accounts, Credit Reports and other very relevant information. This project has been incorporated into the Senior AVID curriculum to educate our stu- dents with the hopes that they will make wise economic decisions in the years to come. EverFi will begin in early February and will end at the beginning of March. It will play a major role in the AVID 402 class with a total of nine grades that will be recorded. During graduation, students who have success- fully completed the program will be given a financial literacy certificate. This certificate has allowed previous graduates to forego tak- ing some freshman seminar coursework. Seniors Seniors Seniors — — — Finish strong !! Finish strong !! Finish strong !! Once you have a college offer in hand, you may get the urge to coast through the rest of the school year. However, it’s important to avoid that urge and finish strong. Colleges, especially selective universities, have been known to withdraw offers of admission to students who drop college prep classes or begin earning uncharacteristically low grades. If you’ve slumped, colleges might send you a warning letter and add certain stipulations to your admission, such as requiring a certain grade point average during your first year of college. Taking a breather during your senior year can also make your freshman year in college more difficult because you aren’t prepared for the subject matter and the workload of college courses. So have fun in these coming months, but don’t let down on your college preparation. ACT News You Can Use Jan. 2013
