R 10a Gallery Opening – Private View Tuesday, March 18th, 2014 10 am – 11.30 am Aline´s choice Toskana 5 is a drawing in colours. As far as I found out, it appeared seven years ago. I found it on the website „kunstnet“ http://www.kunstnet.de/werk/86267-toskana-5 It dates from the 11th of November 2007. It was painted and uploaded by a man called Mike, his family name is unknown because he did not publish it . I don’t know him and I think he isn’t famous. It is a painting with acrylic colours on cardboard. The setting is a countryside in Tuscany, Italy, I can guess so from the title. The painter shows two houses, typical trees and mountains in the background. A path leads to the houses. The general atmosphere is relaxed. There are no persons or animals. It could be the early morning. You see some shadows of trees in the foreground, and it looks as if the sun is rising behind the mountains. It must be spring or early summer, because the colours are warm and in the foreground there are some little white blossoming flowers. I’m not sure what the message could be…but maybe l ife in the countryside is beautiful and relaxed? It could be a memory of a holiday which the painter spent in or near the typical Tuscany houses, with white walls and rectangular, red roofs. He might have come across this place on a stroll through the landscape. It could be a farm in the countryside, but it looks as if no one is there, the big entrance doors are all closed, and I do not see any chairs outside. So maybe this is just a holiday house or a summer home for people who live further away. My first reaction of this drawing was surprise, because I think it’s very successful and painted well. It makes me feel relaxed and I wish I could have a holiday there.
