COURSE OVERVIEW Computing Essentials is a ten-week sixth grade computer class offered to students as a part of the rotation schedule. This course is designed to teach students proper terminology and use of computer hardware and software basics, including assistive technologies and troubleshooting. Students will learn applicable word processing and presentation skills. Students will also learn the basics of creating and utilizing computer graphics and images, as well as visual programming. Digital citizenship, in relation to the acceptable use of technology, will be emphasized as students are given the opportunity to participate in an online classroom environment in a responsible manner. Students will be establishing online accounts for educational purposes to enhance their experiences in the class. The ability to operate a computer with reasonable speed, accuracy, and proper method is essential to being an efficient computer user. Therefore, students will have the opportunity to improve upon those fundamentals in order to further develop keyboarding techniques. Students will strive to utilize proper keyboarding techniques at all times with a target goal of 30 words per minute.
