Students speak: cold, piercings, hair, and the cafeteria By Elizabeth Brustman Even with frigid temperatures among us, the hallways and classrooms still remain uncomfortably cold. Is this the right way to save money? According to anyone who is used to paying bills, the answer is yes. The students, however, think differently. With growing complaints, athletes who purchased the athletic warmups, are looking for the chance to wear them during the day to stay warm. If warn though, infractions are easily distributed. Another familiar concern is piercings. According to the student handbook, guys are not permitted to wear any piercings, and girls are limited to ear piercings. The handbook mentions that “standards of appearance are one means of building character…” But students still question why can’t guys display their ear piercings, but girls can? Along with piercings, the haircut policy is another concern. Guys are not allowed to grow their hair past their ears and outlandish hair color and styles are not permitted for anyone. Both of these forms of appearance are ways of expressing oneself. Is that wrong? The final concern is the excruciatingly long cafeteria lines. In order to get food, the wait time could be 1015 minutes. The food itself is not bad, but does seem a bit pricy, especially for the amount that is served. Either way, try to remember you are being served, and treat the employees with respect. 825 Loveville Rd. Hockessin, DE 19707
