TOI POTO Training Document July 2014 Kupu Whakataki Introduction Our area of expertise is in reaching Maori communities through established networks and communicating technical nutrition information into useable knowledge for Maori community health workers. TOI TANGATA has been training for 10 years in the area of nutrition and on average trains up to 100 providers per year. Due to the nature of the training provided over the years, TOI TANGATA has an established community network with a database of Maori nutrition community workers already engaging in TOI TANGATA training and support services. TOI PIKI is a new product to the TOI TANGATA training model of delivery and is designed for individuals working in the Maori health sector committed to promoting healthy lifestyle changes. An accreditation paper descriptor is also being developed alongside the content development in order to submit to an accreditation partner for acceptance as a level 4 or 5 qualification. This is a significant development for TOI TANGATA and builds on the aspirations of the Maori public health workforce . TOI PIKI can then offered as a follow on training for those who have completed the TOI TANGATA, TOI POTO Community Nutrition and Physical Activity Training Course or as a stand alone. TOI PIKI Provides Maori professionals with the knowledge and skills to implement food, activity and behavior related weight management initiatives in their communities. This is based on current evidence based guidelines, community best practice and an independent review of grey literature which assisted in shaping the product/service.
