REE so the audience can expect something bad to happen. Also an over the shoulder shot is used throughout the film, I think the purpose of this was to show that someone is watching him from behind and that he will never be able to catch them because they are always right behind him, however for the audience using this shot is almost as if they are using the character to protect themselves in case anything jumps out in front of him. During the scenes where he is waking up and when he leaves his apartment low lighting is used as well as a blurry effect, this suggests that when it is dark the male character is unsafe and that something is going to happen and by making it blurry it almost seems as if what is happening is unreal and that he is in a daze. In certain scenes we hear an eerie, old, jazz like song playing which in the film sounds more sinister as we hear it in scenes where the ‘blood fairy’ is playing with his head almost using the music to signify that when this is played the ‘blood fairy’ is c oming for him. Also silence makes a huge impact on the film because it allows the audience to fully concentrate on what is really happening but it also builds up tension making them feel vulnerable. GENRE: The genre of this film is a slasher horror. They manage to get this across through the blood used during the end of the film and also when fridge letters start to come out of his mouth which is quite vile. The film does use some typical conventions such as the idea of staying up late at night, a legend becoming real, the phone call line being disconnected, the lighting switching on and off, someone ringing the doorbell but there is no sign of them, even though these are typical conventions, they are still aspects which manage to add to the films scare factor because the audience still don’t know what they are expected to see since the idea of a ‘blood fairy’ is very unusual. This leads me to my next point, the director did manage to challenge a convention by using a ‘blood fairy’ story since fairies are normally associated as kind, gentle and peaceful beings but combining it with blood and violence change the image of the fairy, which is not something an audience expects to see.
