the MAIN thing keeping the main thing, a message from Jay Cory, President and CEO A s you may have learned from our feature article this month, many of our city’s elderly are in grave danger. With daytime temperatures now consistently above 105 degrees, now more than ever we must locate those living without basic necessities and hydrate them before it is too late. After all, the lives of 50 senior citizens lost to heat and dehydration last year was 50 lives too many. That’s why this year, through our Code Red initiative we are gearing up to reach out to more senior shut-ins than ever before. Our rst phase involves integrating a special team of trained and vetted volunteers who are willing to commit time and energy to checking in on our city’s most vulnerable. It works like this. Once our Hope Coach Director Chaplain Cliff has made the rst contact and assessed the situation, he will then pass the contact information and address of the senior in need to one of our special Elderly Outreach volunteers. Our volunteers will pick up cases of water and boxes of food here at the mission and deliver them once a week to the elderly shut-ins. This gets life-saving supplies into the hands of those who need them most on a regular basis. Plus, it provides shut-ins with something else that is just as important – a visit from a friendly face. Our second phase involves acquiring a second Hope Coach van, a project we’ve been praying for and working towards for some time. Together, these two improvements to our Elderly Outreach program will not only allow us to dramatically increase the number of people we serve, but it will allow us to extend the scope of the program itself - reaching and saving countless lives we could never reach before. Thank you for your partnership that keeps our forgotten elderly neighbors safe and healthy during these severe summer months. God bless you for the support that transforms and saves lives!
