the MAIN thing keeping the main thing, a message from Jay Cory, President and CEO F eeding Phoenix is the heart of what we do here at the Mission. I wholeheartedly believe that if for some reason our meal services went missing, it wouldn’t take long for the rest of our ministry to follow suit. The promise of hot meals are a huge draw to many homeless who would not otherwise seek out our services. The food boxes we give out to families and deliver to elderly shut-ins is a band-aid that lets us address more serious wounds. Meal services get our community involved and exposed to the issue of homelessness rsthand. But most of all, food is important because of the life-change that it makes possible. We know that people we serve have needs beyond just a meal. That’s why we created “Feeding Phoenix, More Than Just a Meal” to shed light on our other services. Like we explained in the cover story, a hungry person won’t hear the message of salvation. Deal with that rumbling in their stomachs, and they will. Thank you so much for the support that continues to nourish bodies and souls here at the Mission every day. Together, by God’s grace, we are changing lives and eternal destinations one meal at a time. Vicki McDermitt (center), along with her partners LuAnn Roberson & Jan Sherman combine a cappella singing with video messaging to showcase memorable, practical examples of Christ’s relationship with His people. Music WITH A MISSION V icki McDermitt and the rest of the team at Music Serving the Word believe that all music was created by God to serve His Word and to glorify Him. They put that belief in action every month when they bring their ministry to the women of the Phoenix Rescue Mission’s Changing Lives Center. Vicki explains, “Our goal is to give these women a biblical perspective on what they are feeling and experiencing during recovery. Between the three of us, we can usually pinpoint a lot of what these women are going through and offer them encouragement and advice.” On December 13th, Music Serving the Word, along with select women from the Changing Lives Center, will be performing a Christmas show titled Music with a Mission to benet the Mission’s work – and you are invited! Vicki tells us, “This year we’re doing something completely different. Our Emmy award-winning visual-media specialist Mario Barnabe has been told to “run wild” and is currently working on a multi-projector, multi-screen presentation that is sure to be fantastic.” Tickets are available at no cost, but seats are limited. For more information on how you can get your tickets for this year’s exciting new show, visit phoenixrescuemission.org/concert or call 602-346-3336. From all of us here at the Mission, we’d like to thank Vicki and the rest of Music Serving the Word for pouring God’s love into the lives of our women!
