MUSC 248Fall 2014 4 Student Learning Outcomes By the end of this course, students will be able to: - know the history of the marching band and its style components; also the impact that drum and bugle corps has had on the marching band activity. - recognize and understand current trends in school marching band, including terminology, best practices, and philosophy behind the role of the band in a school setting. - write, arrange, and/or modify music to t the needs of a particular ensemble. - chart drill by computer to produce the eld formations needed for the visual production of the band. - recognize current competitive trends in marching band through adjudication and critique of design and performance in sample shows. - understand the correct usage of marching percussion in eld performances. - understand the correct usage of color guard/ auxiliary in eld performances. - successfully manage the logistical concerns of running a marching band, including such things as maintaining uniforms, transportation, equipment, booster organizations, etc. - effectively plan a marching band show from beginning to end, including plans for effective rehearsals using proper discipline and rehearsal etiquette. - recognize that life balance is an essential part of the role of band director and articulate activities that maintain that balance.
