FRIDAY THE 21ST OF AUGUST, 1851 What another day on the Goldeld in Ballarat as an Inspector start- ing early. I wake up remembering I am on duty North of Buninyong on a bend of a creek. First person I ask for their license was a galah he had no license whatsoever he thought I was playing stupid he was look- ing over his shoulder checking if I would not catch him but guess what I did. Second person I went to check his license did have one so I left him alone the rst group I checked had one license to share against all of them when I attempt them then the guy who had the license ran off so I went to catch him then I gave up when I came back to camp the other guys were gone I told the trooper to keep an eye out. The next minute I hear a group exited also they yelled I found gold yippee, yip- pee, yippee so I came up to them and they both said they had a license so then I asked them what was there names their names were James Reagan and John Dunlop. I think to myself how heavy was the gold? How much did it worth? Also how long and how deep did they dig? Then I heard a trooper yelling attack also re, re, re, re there was a huge ght against the troopers and the miners I just left it alone and that just went on and on and on and on until dust. Four hours for the ght to stop luckily it stopped I thought it wouldn’t stop at all. A couple of guys got banned of the Ballarat goldelds because they killed a trooper and started swearing at the troopers. What a day I say to my- self tomorrow I am on duty on the better side of the goldelds tomor- row. ZZZ ZZZ ZZZ ZZZ ZZZ john 1
