Support for Parents and Carers There are many groups, individuals and organisations that provide support services for both parents and carers within the community. Their purpose is to: - support parents and carers by assisting them to meet their own needs and to improve their wellbeing - empower parents and carers by enabling them to better manage their multiple roles - educate parents and carers in order to increase their understanding of their rights and responsibilities - improve relationships between parents and their children or between carers and their dependents. Support services don’t need to be accessed in isolation. Parents and carers can access a wide variety of support services, as one service may be enhanced by another. For example, a childcare service such as family day care might have provisions for parents or carers to pay reduced fees by accessing assistance from a government agency such as Centrelink.
