Chapter 1 of the 2015 Edition of Quality Longevity. Starting in the 1930s, Theron Randolph, MD, discovered that many of the most common health problems were caused by reactions to foods that damage one person and not another. These reactions became known as delayed food allergies. Their cause is largely hidden from people and their conventional doctors. Unfortunately, the only way Dr. Randolph had of testing people was to have them fast on just clean water until their symptoms were gone. This took between four and eight days. He would then have his patients eat only one food at a meal to see which foods caused their health problems to come back. After the fast, only three foods could be tested each day. Thus it took about four weeks to fast and then test about 60 foods. The testing was done in a specially designed chemical-free area of a hospital. In today’s dollars this type of testing would cost the patient more than $40,000 to test 60 foods. This method often missed some delayed- allergy-causing foods and usually left the person weakened from the fasting and testing. Most people refused to try this approach because of its cost, the time consumed, and their fear of fasting on just water for several days. Food allergy is the most commonly undiagnosed illness in medicine. Theron Randolph, MD Research scientist and a co-founder of the modern understanding of delayed food and chemical allergies. Author of more than 300 medical articles and studies and co-founder of the American Academy of Environmental Medicine … 1906 – 1995 In 1956 Arthur Black, MD, discovered that a delayed allergic reaction takes place that kills a person’s white blood cells when they eat a food that is not compatible with their immune system. The person’s white blood cells were placed on a special microscope slide that was coated with a minute amount of a food. If the white blood cells crack open and die, the food was damaging to that person’s immune system. This made it possible to learn which foods were causing a person’s health problems from a blood test, instead of the person having to fast for several days and then test just one food at each meal. Each adult has around 11 billion white blood cells. They are our first line of defense against infections and cancer. White blood cells have powerful digestive enzymes inside their numerous tiny stomachs that they use to digest and kill viruses, bacteria and cancer cells. As you are reading this, your white blood cells are working vigorously in every area of your body, killing invaders that are trying to make you sick. Your white blood cells regularly leave your blood vessels by squeezing through the vessel walls so they can clean, disinfect and protect your skin, muscles, organs, brain and the rest of your body. If a food causes a delayed allergic reaction, the white blood cells crack, break open and die. The death of white blood cells causes inflammation throughout the body, and it is the underlying cause of a broad range of health problems. Many different health problems are caused entirely or in part by the delayed allergic reactions to foods and chemicals that occur after the white blood cells are killed. The damage from these reactions starts when the white blood cells react with delayed allergy- causing food particles that entered the blood. When the white blood cells die, their digestive enzymes are released into the blood. These enzymes then travel throughout the body causing varying degrees of damage. Where the person has sensitive areas, these enzymes can cause major symptoms and health problems. The symptoms vary from one person to another, and these reactions also affect brain function. You, the individual, can do more for your health and well-being than any doctor, any hospital, any drug, and any exotic medical device. Joseph Califano United States Secretary of Health, Education, and Welfare, 1977 – 1979, recipient of the Distinguished Civilian Service Medal … These reactions are now known as “delayed food allergies” because they often cause symptoms hours or days after exposure. Acute food allergy reactions are usually noticed within minutes. Delayed food allergies have a different mechanism
