Developing AP Since some requirements for online AP courses are different than regular online courses, this brief guide should help you as you create your content. Be sure to check the SME Training for updates to GAVS requirements. You will also want to visit AP Central for updated course content information. Standards AP Courses come with their own standards/objectives that supersede state standards. IF your course does NOT have a GPS equivalent, you must use the Collegeboard standards. If your course DOES have a GPS equivalent you may also include the GPS standards (this is a particularly good idea if your course has an End of Course Test associated with it) WITH your Collegeboard standards. Format of Standards The standards are formatted differently for each course. In some cases they are in outline form, others are lists of terms, and even others are paragraph descriptions. However yours are formatted, you will need to link to the appropriate ones AND create a doc that includes the applicable standards for that module. In rare circumstances, it is nearly impossible to separate out the specic standards for a particular module (such as when they are in the paragraph format.) In this instance, consult with your development special- ist regarding how to proceed. Textbooks Unlike our regular courses where we encourage all to be textbookless, the Collegeboard requires that each AP course has a textbook and shows evidence that the kids are using the textbook. If you are uncertain as to which textbook your course has, where to nd it or how to get access for yourself, please let your development specialist know. How to Use the Textbook Textbooks are to be as a supplemental resource, the bulk of your instruction will be your own (notes, captivate, activities, etc) but at some point direct the students to read the assigned chapters for back- ground knowledge (in the sidebar or integrated within the content page) The courses should also be Textbook Agnostic - meaning that the material in the course should not correspond directly to a particular text. This allows students to engage in the content, plus allows us to easily change/upgrade texts as well as to share the course. It also gives you, the Subject Matter Expert, more freedom in creating the course
