Only a few hours ago today, I was copied into an internal email exchange that went along the lines of: TEACHER: Help, I can't login to our school assessment system - it seems to have been down for quite a while! MRS THOMAS, (very shortly aerwards): OK, should be back up and running now, I've xed it. TEACHER: You absolute star! Thank you so much. New name for lunchme sta! The lunchme sta are now known as Play Leaders and not Lunch Time Supervisors. This is to encourage and reect their role within school.

This week I wish to pay tribute to our incredible kitchen staf . A busy team, under the supervision of Mrs Morgan work relessly to produce incredible school dinners on a daily basis. The pinnacle of their work is always the annual Christmas dinner where over 300 Christmas dinners have to be prepared all morning and then served in just one hour! Thank you to all the kitchen cooks. In response to feedback from parents regarding communication with school, from January we will be simplifying the system for parents to get in touch with school. Instead of using direct email addresses to individual class teachers or staff members, there will be two central email addresses which we ask parents to use from the new year: firstname.lastname@example.org should be used to pass on general information for the class teacher or other members of the school staff. email@example.com should be used if you wish to book either a telephone conversation or a face to face appointment with a member of staff. Both email addresses will be monitored by the main office and the appropriate member of staff will then get back to you if necessary. We hope this will make the communication process simpler and more effective for all involved. Home School Support Mrs Hodgson is most keen to maintain her direct link with parents so if you need to email her, you do not need to go through the 'informaon@ or 'appointment@' addresses . You can sll contact her directly at firstname.lastname@example.org or email@example.com If, however, she feels your query would be beer directed to the class teacher, she will redirect your email to the new addresses and update you advising that this has been done. Christmas thanks from the PTA……… On behalf of the PTA committee we would like to thank everyone for all the support shown at the Christmas Extravaganza. Without the support of parents helping out on the day it would not be possible to run such events. In partic- ular, we would like say thanks to the fantastic face painters, the refreshments ladies and those who helped run the raffle, tom bo- la, Secret Santa and the reflexologist. Also, a big thank you to Mrs Bakewell for manning the entrance all day. We would also l ike to say thank you to Santa for paying us a visit and to his two elves who stepped in at the last minute. There were some brilliant Christmas crackers and sweet jars made by the children. Thanks to everyone’s support, the Christmas Extravaganza raised in excess of £1,800 for school funds, we are finalising the figures still but will confirm the total next week in the bulletin. Our Christmas raffle was drawn on 10 th December and the main winners are as follows: 1 st – High Street Vouchers – P.Burdett 2 nd – Christmas Hamper — S.Smith 3 rd – Nook — P.George Excellence Awards This week’s Excellence Awards were presented to the following children during Thursday’s assembly: Richie F (3AT) - effort & quality of home learning Ethan W (3MB) - always calm, sensible and considerate of others Molly S (3ED) - thoughtful thank you poem Luke W (4ZP) - for being ready to work every lesson Chloe C (4KW) - asset to class, attempts every task; on own or in a group India H (4SV) - always trying her best, being cheerful and enthusiastic Kayleigh T (5SS) - for trying hard and not giving up when tasks are hard Charlotte E (5FM) - very helpful, volunteered herself for a ‘secret mission’ Mya C (5AB) - for a fantastic story, really drew the reader in Katie T (6KC) - for a much improved attitude towards her work Amy L (6AL) - for excellent progress and her enthusiastic attitude towards assessments Daniel L (6BG) - for preserving through the challenge And the schools wonderful choir for singing ‘cheerily’ at the Christmas Extravaganza. Poppies created to sell at the Christmas Extravaganza The children were inspired by the Tower of London to create such wonderful poppies. £30 has been donated to The British Legion.

Mrs Suell has worked with many children over the years she has worked with us at BJS and we are eternally grateful for all of the extra curricular acvies she has been part of. It is neither necessary nor advisable to use the loons as were used previously. Advice from the School Health team is as follows: - 1 Shampoo the hair with your usual product. 2 Apply a generous amount of condioner and leave on the hair. 3 Check for lice, by combing through wet hair from the roots (in secons) over a pale sheet of paper or towel so that any lice can be combed out and seen. It is necessary to use the special comb, which can be purchased from your chemist. 4 Rinse the condioner from the hair. 5 REPEAT THE 4 STEPS ABOVE AFTER TWO TO THREE DAYS. 6 It is necessary to repeat steps 1 to 5 unl the head is clear of eggs and lice. Advice from the Health team is that the hair should be checked once a week in the above manner to ensure that if lice return th ey can be dealt with as soon as possible. Please also check all other members of the family at the same me, and treat if necessa ry. Many thanks for your co - operaon. Mention of the week! This week we would like to pay particular thanks to Mrs. Norton . Mrs. Norton has swung into action acting as the temporary head, this week, as usual, has presented its challenges but Mrs.Norton’s dedication and devotion towards the school has ensured the seamless running of the school. I am sure its not only the staff and pupils who appreciate Mrs.Norton’s unwavering dedication to BJS. Thank you for all your hard work Mrs. Norton.
BJS WE CARE campaign. This week we started our WE CARE campaign in the school, which is about caring for our environment and developing lifelong positive, sustainable habits with our children. Having a litter-free school is a good indicator of our school’s commitment to both. As a school we are conscious about our responsibilities to the environment and educating our children, we will not allow litter to go unchallenged. Nobody likes to be near litter – it diminishes our lives and shouts out to all who see it: “Nobody cares”. However, at BJS WE CARE and the children will be responsible for ensuring their grounds are litter free. As parents and carers you can support this initiative by signing up to the 3R’s - Reduce, Reuse and Recycle. Less packaging with children’s snacks/lunches; we can deduce they will be eating healthier, financial savings and less rubbish. Win, Win! Parking I doubt there is a school in the country where the following item wouldn't appear on a regular basis in the school bullen. Fol lowing on from my leer last week from Mr. Mark Pawsey MP, this morning I was sent two photographs by a concerned parent of the most ridiculous parking I have ever seen. One showed a vehicle parked completely on the pavement and another showed a vehicle parked right on the bend of a juncon. We are all busy and oen need to 'drop and run ' however I am sure the vast majority of parents would agree when I say that this is NOT an excuse for endangering the lives of our children. I have sent the photographs to the police, I would encourage other parents who spot dangerous and illegal parking to do likewise please. A member of sta has reported that a white BMW is oen parked on the zig zag lines outside the front gate of school in the morn ing. Please can the owner refrain from doing this as it causes a danger to our children and an obstrucon in the road. Thank you. School Hygiene! As ever when the schools return aer the summer break and we enter the autumn months sickness bugs start to party. I have heard that a lot of local schools are beginning to suer and this week we have had several members of sta o ill and quite a number of children o sick as well. In a close community such as a school, I cannot stress highly enough the importance of NOT sending your child into school if they have been sick unl 48 hours aer the last sickness. I appreciate this is dicult with our busy lives and jobs etc but the wider implicaons of not following this have a giganc aect on the whole school community. Please also help us to re - enforce basic hygiene by teaching your child eecve hand washing for at least 20 seconds using soap and hot water and ensuring they know the importance of doing this regularly in school and every me aer vising the toilet. Flat Screen Monitors If you have recently upgraded your computer monitors at home or work, we would kindly ask for donaons of working at screen monitors so we can use them in school. Parent Open Forum Many parents will be aware that for the past 2 years we have held a Parent Partnership Forum in order to have representaves fr om each class feeding into the life of school. We wish to develop this further this year to enable a wider range of parents to hav e open contact with school and feed suggesons, (or praise!) ocially into the system. With this in mind, Mrs. Norton and Mr. Edwards will be available separately on the following dates and mes for any parents to simply drop in and see us if you wish. Please be awa re that this will be for strategic whole school suggesons or comments; any personal issues that have not followed up through the correct procedure will be referred back down the line to the person best placed to deal with it. We hope these sessions will be very posive where our parent partners can bring useful suggesons for school improvement or even let us know areas of school life t hat work well and that we shouldn't touch! Please help support one of our pupils on the below event Leave of absence - Reminder for Parents As you will all be aware, current aendance regulaons spulate a Head teacher may not grant a leave of absence during term - me unless there are exceponal circumstances. Each applicaon for a leave of absence will be considered on a case by case basis and on its own merits. It is for the Head Teacher to decide what he/she views as ‘exceponal’ and it is at their discreon if the circumstances warrant the leave to be granted. If the leave is granted, the head teacher is able to determine the number of school days a child can be absent for. The school can only consider Leave of Absence requests which are made by the ‘resident’ parent. Where applicaons for leave of absence are made in advance and refused, the child will be required to be in school on the dates set out in the applicaon. If the child is absent during that period, it will be recorded as an unauthorised absence, which may result in legal acon being taken against the parent(s), by way of a Fixed Penalty Noce. Failure to make an applicaon for leave in advance can also result in a Fixed Penalty Noce being issued to the parent(s). Where a Fixed Penalty Noce is issued and not paid within the required meframe as set out on the noce, the maer will be referred to Warwickshire County Council’s Legal Services to consider insgang criminal proceedings under S444 Educaon Act 1996. Parents are asked to respect the new regulaons under which the school must work and if there is a need to take a child out of school during term - me, an applicaon or request must be made in advance and make clear how the circumstances are exceponal. Storybox (drama group) will start on next Weds 10th September, leers have already been sent to class. French & Spanish lessons start next week for pupils who aended last year. On Friday last week school held a thrilling netball match between Year 6 and the teachers. The teachers took an early lead but it wasn't long before the children started scoring. The nal result was 6 - 4 to the teachers but it should be said that the children remained on the court for the en- re game whereas the teachers rotated their team in shis with frequent breaks for wheezing and pung at the sidelines! Year 6 Email accounts In line with the school’s policy, pupils from year 6 will have their Bilton Junior School email accounts disabled. ASDA funding for LEGO A big thank you to all who supported the ASDA social development programme for children with ASD. We were successful and awarded £200 by ASDA. This will be used to buy Lego sets for collaborave Lego play. Hollies will be open Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday during the holidays. Change to the School Menu on Thursday 17th July The kitchen will be providing all children who normally have a school dinner on a Thursday with a packed lunch as the kitchen is having essenal work done and are sorry but will not be able to provide the normal menu. School Meals in September The cost of a school meal will increase to £2.05 a day from September. Please remember to let the oce know, in wring or by email, before we break up if your child will be changing their meal arrangements. Well done! A huge well done to Tabitha Coats for achieving black belt in Taekwondo. She spent a gruelling 4 hours in assessment where she had to a two against one sparing session, had to recite terminology and also demonstrate specic moves.
