The ISL Qatar MYP Curriculum Guide, 2015-2016 is intended to provide you with an overview of the curriculum and learning opportunities available at the International School of London, Qatar over the five years of the IB Middle Years Programme (MYP). The years of the MYP, from Grades 6 through 10, are a critical period in the development of young people, and their success in school is related closely to their personal, social and emotional well-being. At a time when students are establishing identity and building self-esteem, the MYP provides an established framework that can motivate students and help them to achieve success. The MYP compliments the school’s commitment to the IB Diploma and ISL Qatar High School Diploma in Grades 11 and 12. The Primary Years Programme (PYP) is undertaken by students from the Early Childhood years to Grade 5 and students move from one programme to the next without any gap years. With its broad and balanced curriculum, the MYP allows students to build on personal strengths and to embrace the challenges in a variety of subjects. The students have opportunities to develop their potential, to explore their own learning preferences, to take appropriate and well-considered risks and to reflect on and develop a strong sense of personal identity.

Welcome to the winter issue of the Lower and Middle School Campus Newsletter. It was a joy to review all the activities and celebrations pictured in the magazine. The first term has been varied, packed with activities, educational visits, outside speakers and a balanced range of co-curricular activities. As I write this we are approaching the festivity season but before we do, you will be meeting with class teachers and receiving the end of term / interim reports. I trust that you will find the reading and meetings a meaningful complement to the newsletter which demonstrates the academic and emotional progress the students have made in the 2014. Enjoy the magazine! Sergio Pawel Lower and Middle School Principal
